Living
Meet Janine and Frank
Janine and Frank have lived in the Camden Park neighborhood in Fearrington Village since just last June. After trying out other places in NC, they found that Fearrington was the perfect fit…and being able to walk to a bookstore is pretty great too! They also expressed something that we hear over and over again from our neighbors. The thing that really makes Fearrington special are the people who live here. Welcome to the neighborhood, you two!
What persuaded you to move to Fearrington?
We first decided to retire to our cabin outside Boone, but the winters were too snowy. We next retired to the historic district in Asheville, but the tourists were too prolific. We’ve finally chosen Fearrington, with its beautiful setting and friendly neighborhoods. It didn’t hurt that we met a Fearrington resident while shopping for plants in Carrboro. She was so encouraging and enthusiastic that we ended up talking about Fearrington for more than an hour. A few weeks later as we were walking through the West Camden neighborhood, we met another resident who showed us her extensive gardens and predicted that we would be neighbors. For us, Fearrington and close-by Pittsboro blend the small-town feel of Boone and the walkability of Asheville. But what finally persuaded us? Fearrington people.
What about the Camden Park neighborhood appealed to you when deciding between Fearrington’s neighborhoods?
The first time we drove through Camden, we knew it was the right place for us. We toured several homes we loved in other Fearrington neighborhoods, but in the end, we’d always say, “If only this house were in Camden, it’d be perfect.” We can walk through the pastoral fields of Camden Park and admire the wildflowers and birds, or we can step out our front door and walk to McIntyre’s. Enough said: For two English majors, this is heaven.
What do you love most about Fearrington?
Our Camden neighbors have been so welcoming that it feels as though we have been residents here for a long, long time.
The day we moved in, we immediately felt at home. Neighbors came by with a home-baked delicacy or just to say hello. Perhaps it’s the sidewalks in Camden that bring about the sense of community. All we have to do to meet people and make friends is putter in the front yard and along come dog walkers, joggers, yoga-mat toters, swimmers, and fellow gardeners who stop for conversation.
What is one of your most fond memories of living in Fearrington?
Our four-year-old granddaughter – who loves to visit with the cows, goats, and chickens – tells people that her grandparents “live on a farm.”
We love sharing our residents’ stories! Read more of them here. Learn more about living in Fearrington here.
