Catering and Special Event staff are responsible for working special events on the property including weddings and corporate functions. These functions are located at one of Fearrington’s on-site venues, including The Fearrington Barn and The Garden Terrace. Recently, Forbes Travel Guide, America’s most trusted hospitality ranking system, listed The Fearrington House Inn as the nation’s “top luxury hotel for weddings.” It’s a great opportunity to become a part of a great team!
The Catering and Special Event team is responsible for site preparation, food service and upholding a high standard for customer service. Work is year round, but seasonal with spring and fall being the busiest times. They will report to the catering manager.
Long work days are common (approximately 12+/- hours, working inside and outside, and many events are nights and weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).
Responsibilities include:
- Set up for events; including cleaning, stocking and set-up of regularly used items such as tablecloths and place settings, arranging table placement and putting up a buffet, carry trays to serve guests and cleaning up at the event’s conclusion.
- A catering staff’s duties during the event can vary based on the situation, but, in general, they must be able to focus on the job while staying on their feet and moving about freely, which can include bending, climbing stairs and carrying items weighing 25-50 pounds.
- Good communication is important, as is being able to follow directions efficiently and meeting the physical demands of the job. A positive attitude while on the job is also essential.
- Catering staff must adhere to health and safety standards at all times, even when closing down at the end of the event, which will include breaking down the table set up and taking tablecloths and linens to the laundry.
