Remembering Luna: Fearrington Village’s Welcoming Heart

June 12, 2026

For more than a decade, visitors to Fearrington Village were often greeted not only by a salesperson, a neighbor, or a sign — but also by Luna.

Since 2009, Luna served as the unofficial ambassador, office companion, walking partner, and welcoming committee for countless people discovering the village for the first time. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel immediately at home. Whether you were stopping in with questions, exploring homesites, or considering becoming part of the community, Luna was there with a wagging tail, calm presence, and quiet understanding that transformed ordinary visits into memorable ones.

She greeted customers as if they were old friends returning home. Delighting them with her many sweaters and whimsical outfits.

She walked homesites with future residents, happily accompanying conversations about dreams, plans, and new beginnings. Along wooded paths and quiet streets, Luna became part of the stories families would later tell about how they first fell in love with Fearrington Village. For many newcomers, she was among the very first faces they came to know here.

And for those of us lucky enough to work alongside her, Luna was far more than an office dog.

She was routine and comfort. She was companionship during busy days and calm during stressful moments. She reminded us to pause, step outside, and appreciate the simple joy of connection. She had an uncanny ability to know exactly when someone needed a little extra warmth or encouragement.

Over the years, thousands of hands reached down to pet her. Thousands of smiles appeared because of her. Children searched for her when they came through the door. Residents asked about her by name. Visitors remembered her long after their tours ended.

Luna became woven into the fabric of Fearrington Village itself.

It’s difficult to imagine the office without hearing her footsteps nearby or seeing her patiently waiting to welcome the next visitor. Her absence leaves a space that cannot truly be filled, because Luna was never simply part of the office — she was part of the community’s spirit.

While we mourn her loss, we are deeply grateful for the years we shared with her and the joy she brought to so many lives. Her legacy lives on in every friendship she helped spark, every newcomer she welcomed, and every memory created in her quiet company.

Thank you, Luna, for the many years of loyalty, love, and unwavering sweetness.

Fearrington Village was better because you were here.
