FULL TIME SOMMELIER

Overview 

Fearrington Village is seeking a knowledgeable, engaging, and hospitality-driven Sommelier to join our wine team. This is a unique opportunity for someone who loves wine and enjoys both the service and retail sides of the industry.

The Sommelier will work across Fearrington Village’s wine program, with responsibilities spanning The Fearrington House Restaurant and Galloway’s Wine Shop & Bar. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable guiding a guest through a fine-dining wine experience, helping a customer select a bottle to enjoy at home, maintaining an extensive cellar, and assisting with tastings, wine dinners, and special events.


What You'll Do

  • Provide knowledgeable, approachable wine service at The Fearrington House Restaurant, assisting guests with selections and pairings that complement their menu choices and preferences.
  • Work closely with our culinary and service teams to maintain the high level of hospitality for which The Fearrington House is known.
  • Support the day-to-day operation of Galloway’s Wine Shop & Bar, including retail wine sales, guest recommendations, tastings, wine flights, and special events.
  • Develop genuine relationships with guests, residents, and customers while making wine approachable and enjoyable for everyone—from the curious beginner to the experienced collector.
  • Assist with wine purchasing, receiving, organization, storage, pricing, and inventory management across Fearrington Village.
  • Maintain accurate cellar and retail inventories and assist with regular inventory counts and reconciliation.
  • Help maintain and update restaurant wine lists, retail selections, tasting notes, and other wine-related materials.
  • Work with distributors, importers, wineries, and other industry partners to stay current on new releases, vintages, allocations, and emerging producers.
  • Participate in staff wine education and help restaurant, bar, and retail teams build their wine knowledge and confidence.
  • Assist with planning and executing wine dinners, winemaker events, classes, tastings, and other special wine experiences throughout Fearrington Village.
  • Support private events and weddings when specialized wine knowledge or service is needed.
  • Ensure proper wine storage, cellar organization, rotation, temperature control, and handling.
  • Assist with maintaining appropriate wine costs, pricing, margins, and inventory levels.
  • Stay informed about wine regions, producers, vintages, varietals, current industry trends, and food-and-wine pairing.
  • Represent Fearrington Village and its wine program with warmth, professionalism, curiosity, and enthusiasm.


What We're Looking For

  • A genuine passion for hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Previous sommelier, wine retail, fine-dining, or beverage experience strongly preferred.
  • Sommelier certification through the Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET, Society of Wine Educators, or a comparable program is preferred, but significant professional wine experience will also be considered.
  • Experience with wine inventory, purchasing, cellar management, or retail wine operations is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to discuss wine in a way that is knowledgeable without being intimidating
  • Comfortable balancing fine-dining service, retail responsibilities, inventory management, and special events.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with culinary, restaurant, retail, events, and management teams.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as needed.
  • Must meet all applicable requirements for the service and sale of alcoholic beverages in North Carolina.

We are seeking a polished, engaging, and style-driven Retail Stylist & Sales Associate to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who loves fashion, enjoys building relationships with clients, and has a natural ability to create complete, personalized looks.

You will play a key role in delivering a warm, elevated shopping experience while driving sales through thoughtful styling and product knowledge.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide exceptional, personalized customer service

FULL TIME PM PASTRY LINE COOK

ull Time – Thursday – Sunday, generally 12pm – 10pm

 

Compensation for Pastry Line Cooks DOE and negotiable.

Pastry Line Cook Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare pastries and desserts for dinner/bar guests
  • Follow recipes and assist in the development of new pastry/dessert recipes
  • Follow prep list and ensure all pastry ingredients are fresh before serving
  • Ensure all pastry coolers and storage areas are maintained, neat, organized and rotated
  • Maintain highest sanitary conditions
  • Ensures all work areas are safe & report any unsafe conditions
  • Other duties as assigned

Candidates must:

  • Have previous pastry experience in a high volume quality kitchen but, will train the right person
  • Be a team player, self motivator
  • Possess excellent communication and organizational skills

CATERING & SPECIAL EVENTS STAFF

Catering and Special Event staff are responsible for working special events on the property including weddings and corporate functions. These functions are located at one of Fearrington’s on-site venues, including The Fearrington Barn and The Garden Terrace. Recently, Forbes Travel Guide, America’s most trusted hospitality ranking system, listed The Fearrington House Inn as the nation’s “top luxury hotel for weddings.” It’s a great opportunity to become a part of a great team!

The Catering and Special Event team is responsible for site preparation, food service and upholding a high standard for customer service. Work is year round, but seasonal with spring and fall being the busiest times. They will report to the catering manager.

Long work days are common (approximately 12+/- hours, working inside and outside, and many events are nights and weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). 

Responsibilities include:

  • Set up for events; including cleaning, stocking and set-up of regularly used items such as tablecloths and place settings, arranging table placement and putting up a buffet, carry trays to serve guests and cleaning up at the event’s conclusion.
  • A catering staff’s duties during the event can vary based on the situation, but, in general, they must be able to focus on the job while staying on their feet and moving about freely, which can include bending, climbing stairs and carrying items weighing 25-50 pounds.
  • Good communication is important, as is being able to follow directions efficiently and meeting the physical demands of the job. A positive attitude while on the job is also essential.
  • Catering staff must adhere to health and safety standards at all times, even when closing down at the end of the event, which will include breaking down the table set up and taking tablecloths and linens to the laundry.

Qualifications include:

  • Ability to arrive at work in a timely manner and with a pleasing disposition
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as banquet event orders
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks, multi-task, and maintain focus
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Previous customer service experience is preferred but not required

LINE COOK

Join one of America’s top fine dining restaurants with a team of dedicated professionals. A line cook is responsible for the daily preparation of food items and will report to the Sous Chef or Executive Chef. Responsibilities include:

  • Setting up station according to restaurant guidelines
  • Preparing all food items in a sanitary and timely manner
  • Following recipes, portion control and presentation as set by the Restaurant
  • Restocking of all items as needed during the shift
  • Cleaning and maintaining the station practicing good safety, sanitation and organizing skills
  • Properly using all equipment in station
  • Assisting with the cleaning and organization of kitchen, walk-in coolers and all storage areas
  • Performing additional responsibilities as requested by the Chef, Sous Chef or Executive Chef as needed

 

Qualifications include:

  • Skilled professional cooking, knife handling, kitchen safety and sanitation practices and food handling
  • Previous experience
  • English language communications skills
  • Ability to take direction, work in a team environment and work calmly and effectively under pressure
  • Committed to quality service
  • Ability to stand during entire shift, occasional exposure to hot and cold, lift up to 50 pounds on occasion
