Tucked between rolling pastures and wooded trails near Chapel Hill, Fearrington Village offers one of the Triangle’s quietest pleasures: bird watching. What makes this community special is not just its gardens and walking paths, but the way nature is woven into everyday life. Native meadows, ponds, and forest edges create a haven for both migratory and resident birds.
It is not uncommon to see these majestic big birds at one of the many ponds in Fearrington Village. They love to fish for the many Trout, Bass and Carp that populate the water holes here. Though skittish and watchful, they are beautiful to glimpse as they intently hunt their prey.
BACKYARD BEAUTIES
Fearrington Residents are often known for their extensive gardens and beautiful, well thought out backyards. It is always fun to spot the wide variety of birds at the feeders. These range from Warblers, Blackbirds, Sparrows and Jays among many others.
WILD DUCKS
One of our most endearing bird friends is the duck. We have wild Mallards that come to stay - or sometimes - just pop in for a short sojourn. Our resident Moscovy Sophocles is a friend to all and large groups of geese often make a raucous appearance.
