September 16, 2026

Dear Gentle Reader,

We are delighted to welcome Fall with our Book Club Events. Tomorrow night's Book Club event is sold out, but some tickets remain for Friday's Book Club Morning Social.

Next Thursday (September 24th) at 6:30pm, Ekin Oklap visits to discuss her novel, First Summer.  A dreamy debut novel about the summer love that changes two girls at the edge of adulthood. While this is Ekin's first novel, she is no novice around a pen and paper. A seasoned translator, Ekin Oklap was born in Turkey, grew up in Italy, and lives in London. Her translations from Turkish and Italian have been shortlisted for the International Booker Prize and John Florio Prize, among others.

On Friday, September 25th we are joining a national effort to celebrate Dolly Parton's memory and will donate 9.25% of sales to herImagination Library, which mails out monthly millions of books to pre-k children who might not otherwise have books in their homes.

We’re also fundraising for a project that’s even closer to home. In collaboration with the excellent team at  Chatham Reads, McIntyre’s is bringing 2 award-winning authors to 4 different Chatham County Schools this month. We welcome your donations to make an even greater impact - books for students to take home and keep after the author visit! You can select specific titles to donate or choose one of our donation tiers, like sponsoring a reading group or classroom set. We have a special page on our websitewith all the options!

Saturday, September 26th, Dr. Tim Tyson and gospel singer Mary D. Williamsvisit to discuss their biography, Mahalia Jackson: Moving on Up a Little Higher. Weaving together Mahalia Jackson’s inspiring life journey with her soulful music into a transcendent text, this biography ultimately casts Mahalia Jackson as we’ve never seen her before, as a guiding light for the Civil Rights Movement, whose message still speaks to our struggles today. We expect this to be a full house; you can reserve 2 seats by purchasing a copy of Mahalia Jackson from McIntyre’s in advance.

Save the date for a great event for young readers and football fans! On Wednesday, September 30th at 6:00pmwe welcome Derrick Barnes in celebration of his newest book Who Got Game? Football. This is the 3rd installment of Derrick Barnes‘ excellent nonfiction sports series, but he is also the author of award-winning picture books and middle grade novels. We are big fans of his work!

All the best from the Usual Suspects,

Pete, Johanna, Sarah G., Tyler, Amy, Talia, Sarah C. and Keebe
