Dear Gentle Reader,

And… we are sold out for tickets to David Sedaris's event in the Barn on Wednesday, June 24th. We DO have tickets available for the signing line,so you can still purchase a copy of A Land and its Peopleand join the signing line to meet Mr. Sedaris,

This weekend we have a double header on Saturday, May 23. At 11am, food writer Brigid Washingtonwill discuss her much lauded culinary memoir, Salt, Sweat and Steam: The Fiery Education of an Accidental Chef with Dr. Cynthia Greenlee. High pressure. Hot kitchens. A memoir of ambition, belonging, and a coming-of-age story. "Her fast-moving coming-of-age memoir will appeal to anyone who’s been curious about culinary school."--Eater

Brigid is a delight!, and we are hearing from multiple sources that this book should be on this coming year's James Beard Award list.

Then at 2pm, we have Dr. Bart D. Ehrman (rescheduled from April) to talk about Love Thy Stranger: How the Teachings of Jesus Transformed the Moral Conscience of the West. From the New York Times bestselling author of Misquoting Jesus comes a surprising history of Jesus’s most radical commandment—a new kind of altruism—tracing how the extraordinary duty to love even those who are strangers to us has shaped our world and our lives. It is always a pleasure to welcome back Dr. Ehrman as his campus lectures are always filled. Bart Ehrman is a leading authority on the New Testament and the history of early Christianity. A distinguished professor of religious studies at UNC Chapel Hill, he is the author of six New York Times bestsellers including Misquoting Jesus, How Jesus Became God, and The Triumph of Christianity

Next weekend Craig Johnsonrides into town to talk about The Brothers McKay: A Longmire Mystery. The twenty-second novel in the Longmire series, The Brothers McKay is a murder mystery and a survival thriller that tests the sheriff’s hard-won sense of justice—all while paying sly homage to Dostoevsky’s classic, The Brothers Karamazov. This is a ticketed eventin the Barn. In order to attend, simply buy a copy of The Brothers McKayfrom McIntyre's and you and a friend can join us.

Sunday, May 31stat 2pm the NC Poetry Society holds their monthly reading in the bookstore. This month's poets who will read include Scott Owens, Rob Merritt, and Lucinda Trew.
