Dear Gentle Reader,
Business is bustling at McIntyre's!
The tickets for David Sedaris are 85% sold, so (as we have mentioned before) do not wait until the last minute. At the current rate, we should run out this week. To recap, buying a copy of The Land and Its People from McIntyre's will gain entry for one lucky person to our event in the Fearrington Barn.
This Saturday at 11am, we are honored to welcome Pulitzer Prize-winner Jayne Anne Phillipsfor her highly lauded Small Town Girls: A Writer's Memoir. These sketches shine with Phillips' craftsmanship and have earned starred reviews from Kirkus and Publisher's Weekly. You will not want to miss this event.
Oprah's #1 Most Anticipated Book of 2026.
“A bittersweet triumph. . . . Phillips’s new book is rich with evocative descriptions of her hometown. . . . Her love and respect for the people and their pasts, and for the splendor of the landscape, gives the writing at times the feel of a meditation, one that is ideally served by the eloquence and precision of the author’s prose. . . . One of the finest descriptions I have read of how a fiction writer’s mind works.” —Sigrid Nunez, New York Times Book Review
“Jayne Anne Phillips writes like a jeweler, setting each word like a gemstone.” —Here & Now/NPR
Then this Saturday at 2pm, Nancy Johnston Hall discusses her novel Sweet Fields Beyond with author and editor Susan Ketchin. Come join us for a lively discussion about this thought provoking tale of survival, moral reckoning and the making of home in a wild land in this award-winning historical fiction.

Also next weekend, we host Bart Ehrman and his new book Love Thy Stranger. His bookcharts the causes and consequences of this ethical revolution with his signature sly humor and verve. This event was previously slotted for April, but has been rescheduled for next weekend, and we are so excited to finally host him.
The end of the month cannot get here quick enough as we corral legendary mystery author Craig Johnson back into the barn. This event on Saturday, May 30th at 11am is ticketed. A purchase of Craig's latest novel, The Brothers McKay, gets two people into the Barn.
