Dear Gentle Reader,
A big thanks to all who popped in this weekend to help McIntyre's celebrate our 37th birthday AND national Independent Bookstore Day.
This weekend we have a double header on Saturday, May 2nd. At 11am, we are delighted to welcome back Tommy Hayswho will discuss his latest novel, The Marriage Bed, with novelist Elaine Neil Orr.A freak accident comes on the heels of a startling revelation—laying bare the foundation of a marriage, and a husband is left to grapple with the aftermath. A poetry professor at a small college in Asheville, NC, Asa Flowers, comes home one stormy evening to find his wife Betsy inexplicably distraught. As the evening goes on, the couple end up in a heated argument that sends Asa to sleep out in their garage apartment for the first time in twenty-five years of marriage. The next morning, he wakes to blue sky and an altered world.
Then at 2pm, beloved local author Nora Gaskin will talk with mystery writer Sara Johnsonabout her latest, Lammie Loves Cubbie. Our Town meets Bonnie and Clyde. When Lammie Timmons and Quinn (Cubby) Tatum reunite after twenty years, sparks fly--literally. The story has been described as slow-burn Southern literary suspense. Can the fire that is Lammie and Cubby be extinguished?
On Thursday, May 7th author/illustrator David Walker joins us for a special storytime at 10:30! All ages are welcome. Just in time for Mother's Day, David Walker will share his latest collaboration with Ann Whitford Paul, If Animals Said I Love You, Mama.

May will be jumping at McIntyre's as we continue to tailor the store to better fit our customers' needs. Some sections are being added (like gender studies, travel, and romantasy) and some expanded (like science fiction, romance, and horror). In order to accommodate these changes-- we are going to move some sections around and downsize others. Check in on our progress this month!
All the best from the Usual Suspects,
Pete, Johanna, Sarah G., Tyler, Amy, Juliana, Sarah C., and Keebe
