Dear Gentle Reader,
We mentioned three big author announcements for the summer. We are over the moon that we can now unveil the third author: David Sedaris! Seating is limited for his event on Wednesday, June 24th at 6:30pm in the Fearrington Barn for his latest, The Land and its People, and it will sell out. To attend, each person must buy a book. Much hoopla surrounds its release, with starred reviews and phrases like “a return to form' and ”the best of his career" being bandied about. If you are thinking about attending, it would not be wise to dilly dally…
This Saturday is national Independent Bookstore Day and McIntyre's Books' 37th Birthday-- and we are celebrating all day! Starting with Johanna Banana's storytime for the wee ones in the Village Center (with a very special appearance from Billy Sugarfix and a certain red ukulele), we will have giveaways all day long, cookies, special IBD merch, and a hidden Golden Ticket for a year's worth of audio books.
McIntyre's is also taking part in the weekend long RDU Book Crawl. From Friday to Sunday you can visit as many of the 10 participating area independent bookstores as you wish for a chance to win one of ten swag bags. We will start handing out bookmarks for the book crawl on Friday. (Sadly our Appalachian poetry reading has been postponed.)
This Sunday (April 26th) at 2pm, we welcome back the NC Poetry Society for our monthly event. Michael Hettich, Narya Rose Deckard, & Mark Coxwill read.
Next Saturday, May 2nd at 2pm, Tommy Hays will discuss his latest novel, The Marriage Bed, with Elaine Nell Orr.
The Usual Suspects,
Pete, Johanna, Sarah G., Tyler, Amy, Juliana, Sarah C. and Keebe
