April 15, 2026
Dear Gentle Reader,
Around this time every spring we get so many questions about our Chinese fringe tree in front of the bookstore that it just seemed right to include a picture of it in all its glory. Enjoy!
Okay-- it's time to announce our second event of the three upcoming big events we are hosting this summer. You already know about Martin Walker coming on Saturday, June 20th at 11am for his latest Bruno Chief of Police mystery, A Murder in Springtime. Well, let's just say we are beyond thrilled to also welcome back Craig Johnson on Saturday, May 30th at 11am for his latest Longmire novel, The Brothers McKay. Both of these events are ticketed, meaning in this case that when you purchase your copy of these books from McIntyre's, there will be two tickets in your book for you and a friend to attend the event in the Barn.
Time is flying! A few more upcoming events we want to draw your attention to… If you're in need of a family activity on this Saturday, April 18th picture book author Sue Soltis will do a presentation at Chatham Community Library at 11am. She'll read her recent picture book The Moon Moved In as part of the NC Science Festival Statewide Star Party. Then on Thursday, April 23 at 7pm, Our State magazine's Books in the Barn meets as host Wiley Cash discusses with Meagan Church her novel, The Mad Wife. Tickets are available online through Our State, or by clicking here.
Next weekend… Saturday, April 25 is national Independent Bookstore Day. We are taking part in the RDU Book Crawl, so if you are looking for something fun and different to do-- pick up a bookmark at one of the 10 participating stores, crawl through as many Triangle indies on the bookmark that you can, and get that bookmark punched at each one you visit. Each of the ten participating stores has donated a nice swag bag for which you will be entered into a drawing when you submit your finished bookmark.
If you are not feeling so adventuresome, please just drop by McIntyre's-- we will have cookies, giveaways, a special story time with Johanna Banana and guest Billy Sugarfix (who will play our magical red ukulele), a fantastic Appalachian poetry reading, and a Golden Ticket hidden in the store which will earn its finder a year's worth of audio books. Much fun to be had!
The Usual Suspects,
Pete, Johanna, Sarah G., Tyler, Juliana, Amy, Sarah C. and Keebe
