Please join us for a special Sunday evening focused on sparkling wines with Marti Pujol of Raventós i Blanc from Catalonia, Spain! Chef Paul Gagne’s 4-course dinner menu will pair with 6 memorable wines.
RAVENTÓS I BLANC
Raventós i Blanc is a winery with one of the longest documented winegrowing traditions in the world. The family farm where the wines are now produced has belonged to the Raventós family since 1497. Five centuries working 90 hectares of vines and forest, a dynasty closely associated with the land from one generation to the next. Today, Pepe Raventós, who represents the twenty-first generation of the family, farms 44 plots using biodynamic winegrowing methods and is committed to maintaining the estate of vines, wood and lake as a complete entity. Raventós i Blanc is faithful to tradition and upholds the relationship between man and nature at the very core of its production philosophy.
Josep Maria Raventós helped usher in the designation of Cava in 1982, but as the term became widespread and diluted, the winery moved towards the more specific and geographical term of Conca del Riu Anoia. All Raventós sparkling wines are from local native varieties, using a single vintage, with a minimum of 18 months of aging on the lees, and are farmed biodynamically.
MARTI PUJOL
Marti Pujol was born in the small town of Breda, in Catalonia, Spain. His earliest memories are split between the lambs on his family farm and his grandfather’s pottery workshop. With a bit of luck, he managed to finish high school and went on to study political science in the beautiful town of Girona. Once there, he quickly realized that the law classes didn’t inspire him—but did discover a new passion: wine. Marti eventually left his political science studies behind and moved to the Penedès to dedicate himself fully to viticulture and oenology.
After spending several years on the technical side of winemaking and traveling for harvests, he’s now part of the sales team, sharing the story and soul behind two beautiful wine projects: Can Sumoi and Raventós i Blanc.
