Last week I had the pleasure of traveling to our annual Relais & Châteaux North American meeting, held this year in beautiful Punta Cana at the stunning Eden Roc Cap Cana.
I had visited once before nearly ten years ago, but I was truly amazed at the thoughtful growth and enhancements throughout the island — particularly in the Cap Cana area. Best of all, there is now a direct flight from RDU, which makes the journey remarkably easy. I flew Breeze Airways for the first time and was pleasantly surprised — new planes, smooth service, and a seamless travel experience from start to finish.
For those unfamiliar, Cap Cana is a master-planned enclave on the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic, known for its turquoise waters, pristine beaches, and commitment to understated luxury. Once a quiet stretch of coastline, it has evolved into a refined destination with a marina, golf courses, protected ecological areas, and resorts that celebrate both natural beauty and thoughtful design. Eden Roc itself blends Caribbean color with Mediterranean elegance — a fitting backdrop for a gathering of hospitality leaders.
The true highlight, of course, was reconnecting with colleagues from across North America. These meetings are always energizing — we network, share ideas, compare notes, and learn more about the initiatives Relais & Châteaux is advancing on our behalf. There is something powerful about sitting in a room with like-minded properties, all dedicated to the same standards of excellence, sustainability, and meaningful hospitality.
In between sessions, we experienced the culture and cuisine of the Dominican Republic — vibrant flavors, warm hospitality, and a palpable pride in place. Those shared meals and conversations often spark as much inspiration as the formal meetings themselves.
It was an inspiring four days. I returned home grateful for the friendships within our association, excited about what lies ahead for Relais & Châteaux, and reminded once again how fortunate we are to be part of a global family that values authenticity, place, and heartfelt hospitality.
And yes — having that 3 hour direct flight doesn’t hurt either.
