Classic Cabernet Franc with both depth and freshness, Les Picasses shows ripe cherry and raspberry alongside dried herbs, white pepper, cocoa and a distinct chalky mineral edge. The palate is medium-bodied and silky through the middle, with firm but polished tannins and bright acidity keeping the wine structured and lively.
Olga Raffault is one of the benchmark traditional producers of Chinon, and Les Picasses is the estate’s most important red. The wine comes from a south-facing clay-limestone slope near Beaumont-en-Véron, with vines at least 50 years old, farmed organically and harvested by hand.
The fruit is destemmed, fermented with indigenous yeasts and given a long maceration before aging for one to two years in large oak and chestnut foudres, followed by further bottle age before release. The 2020 has enough ripe fruit to be enjoyable now, but the chalky tannins and fresh acidity give it real aging potential. Excellent with roast lamb, braised beef, mushrooms or aged cheeses.
