This excellent Estate label of Chateau Montelena showcases the art and craft that takes place in the upper echelons of Napa wine making. This estate label is 99% Cabernet Sauvignon with 0.5% Petit Verdot and 0.5% Cabernet Franc. It is aged in French oak (40% new) for 22 months before bottling in August 2021. This care along with a beautifully temperate vintage leads to a wine chockful of powerful aromatics.
On the nose you'll find fresh lavender, ripe plum, cherry compote, bergamot, wet rock and black pepper. On the palate you'll be met with red raspberry and cranberry which quickly darkens to blueberry jam and ripe blackberry. Strong, angular tannins could be softened with further cellaring, though the brightness and purity of the wine at this stage means it it enjoyable now in its younger character as well. Tertiary notes of espresso, cacao and baking spice present themselves on the finish.
