CHÂTEAU DUCRU-BEAUCAILLOU 'LA CROIX' 2018 - Fearrington Village

CHÂTEAU DUCRU-BEAUCAILLOU 'LA CROIX' 2018

Rich, polished and deeply fruited, La Croix 2018 shows blackcurrant, blackberry and plum layered with violet, graphite, tobacco, licorice and a smoky mineral edge. Full-bodied and concentrated, it has the plushness of the warm 2018 vintage but keeps excellent freshness, with broad, fine-grained tannins and a long, savory finish.

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is one of the great estates of Saint-Julien, classified as a Second Growth in 1855 and long associated with the Borie family. La Croix is often described as the estate’s second wine, though it comes largely from dedicated parcels and has developed a distinct identity of its own, offering the Ducru style in a more approachable form.

The 2018 blend is 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot, aged for roughly 12 months in a high proportion of new French oak. The result is generous and velvety, with dark fruit, spice and polished tannins. Now moving into an excellent drinking window, it is ideal with roast beef, lamb, duck or aged cheeses, though it still has plenty of life ahead in the cellar.
