Bright, peppery and wonderfully distinctive, this 100% Pelaverga Piccolo shows wild strawberry, red currant and cranberry with white pepper, bay leaf, green tea and a delicate floral lift. Light-bodied with lively acidity and fine, crunchy tannins, it is fresh and savory rather than fruity or heavy, making it one of Piedmont’s most charming lighter reds.
Castello di Verduno is a historic estate in the village of Verduno, at the northern edge of the Barolo zone. While the property is best known for Nebbiolo, it has also played an important role in preserving Pelaverga Piccolo, a rare indigenous grape grown almost exclusively around Verduno.
Basadone is made in a bright, traditional style that emphasizes the grape’s natural perfume and signature white-pepper character rather than oak or extraction. The 2024 is especially energetic and refreshing, with enough savory complexity to keep it interesting while remaining very easy to drink. Serve it with a slight chill alongside charcuterie, roast chicken, mushrooms or lighter pasta dishes.
