    Dark, concentrated and unusually powerful for Pinot Noir, the 2021 Estate bottling shows plum, black cherry and crushed raspberry alongside violet, sandalwood, rhubarb, smoke and savory spice. The palate is broad and silky, with ripe, rounded tannins and bright acidity giving lift to the wine’s dense, opulent fruit.

    Aston Estate is the Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir project of acclaimed winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, who has worked with the vineyard since its early years and took full ownership in 2021. The estate vineyard sits in the cool, rugged coastal hills near Annapolis, only a few miles from the Pacific, where wind, fog and a long growing season help produce deeply flavored Pinot Noir with a distinctly savory edge.

    The 2021 Estate Pinot Noir is a best-barrel selection from the estate’s 14-acre vineyard, planted in 2001. It is 100% Pinot Noir, aged in 100% French oak with 40% new barrels, and production was under 1,000 cases. Now entering a very attractive drinking window, this is a compelling choice for anyone who prefers Pinot Noir on the richer, darker and more structured side, while still retaining the freshness and aromatic detail of the Sonoma Coast.
