Gentle Reader – March 4, 2025
Dear Gentle Reader,
In like a lion, indeed! March looks to be quite a busy month with something for everyone on our events schedule,
Before diving in, we have an exciting announcement– Chatham native Silvan Goddin and her husband Jordan Tony will be here on Saturday, April 5th at 11am to discuss their book, Homegrown Handgathered: The Complete Guide to Living Off Your Garden. With this highly anticipated book (they have almost 2 million followers on social media), we welcome back these UNC grads to the area. Silvan and Jordan are famous for living for months at a time solely off the bounty of their garden. If you are interested in attending, we have a new web feature we are testing out. Please RSVP (upper right-hand side) to help inform our event preparation.
We kick off the week with a visit from our favorite writing coach, Margot Lester, who will be here on Wednesday afternoon (tomorrow), March 5th, from 1:30-3:30pm. Margot is a professional writer who holds office hours once a month with the goal of getting other writers unstuck. If you are working on a book, homework or dating profile and need help, drop by and pick Margot’s mind.
This weekend we have a doubleheader on Saturday, March 8th. At 11am, stalwart former News & Observer political correspondent Rob Christensen discusses his book, Southern News, Southern Politics: How a Newspaper Defined a State for a Century, which takes a deep dive into the Raleigh newspaper which helped shape North Carolina and the Daniels family, the multi-generational owners that ran the paper. Sarah was fascinated reading it. Then at 2pm, Dr. Angela Rosenbergwill share insights from Being on Wing: Feathered Reflections on the Enneagram Subtypes. Dr Rosenberg is an unabashed bird nerd and has a doctorate in leadership, having authored numerous professional publications.
