At McIntyre's Books
Gentle Reader – March 18, 2025
Dear Gentle Reader,
The news is out! Craig Johnson returns with his latest Longmire novel, Return to Sender, on Sunday, June 1st at 2pm. To attend, buy a copy of Return to Senderfrom McIntyre’s and you and a friend can join us in the Fearrington Barn. But wait! There’s more good news to come next week, so check out our Instagram feed @mcintyresbooks on Wednesday or stay tuned to this missive next week.
We have had many conversations over the last several days with our customers, who are breaking up with certain incredibly big for their britches online retailers. Your support of small business and our community is so appreciated! Many questions have also been fielded about audio books and where those can be located. Please know McIntyre’s and other independent bookstores serve as affiliates for Libro.FM, and it is a very user friendly site. Also worthy of note is that your local library is an alternative great resource for checking out audio books. We are so lucky to have so many libraries in this area at our disposal.
This coming Saturday (March 22nd), McIntyre’s is hosting a double header. At 11 am, we are hosting a ticketed conversation between Patti Callahan Henry and Frances Mayes. Ms. Henry has a riveting literary mystery just out this week, The Story She Left Behind. Buy your copy of this book from McIntyre’s and you and your friend can attend! Then at 2pm, Travis Mulhauser will be here to discuss The Trouble Up North, his novel about bookleggers and the land that lies them. “Mulhauser peppers the action with jaw-dropping twists, but his real strength is in constructing three-dimensional characters whose transgressions feel both plausible and shocking. Readers won’t be able to put this down.” –Publishers Weekly.
Next Sunday, our monthly reading with the NC Poetry Society takes place in McIntyre’s at 2pm. Come hear John Balaban, Melinda Thomsen and John Amen.
On Saturday, April 5th we are thrilled and delighted to welcome home Silvan Goddin and Jordan Tony. Silvan grew up in Chatham County, went to UNC (where she met Jordan), and is the daughter of our beloved bookseller Sarah. Silvan and Jordan have written a timely book, Homegrown Handgathered, packed with gardening tips and recipes. This duo has almost 2 million followers across their social media channels, who follow them for their advice (so you should, too). Check out @homegrown_handgathered. At 2pm, Jill Amber Chafin will discuss her novel,Shaken, with Mimi Herman.
The Usual Suspects,
Pete, Johanna, Sarah, Tyler, Amy and Keebe
