At McIntyre's Books
Gentle Reader – April 1, 2025
Dear Gentle Reader,
No foolin’! The cat is out of the bag. Wednesday, June 4th at 7pm, we welcome Dr. Abraham Verghese for a ticketed event in the Fearrington Barn celebrating the paperback release of his novel, The Covenant of Water. Dr. Verghese will be in discussion with Anita Rao, the creator and host of WUNC’sEmbodied. We are so excited– Dr. Verghese came by McIntyre’s way back in 1994 while on tour for his first book, My Own Country. Beloved for his lush writing and exquisite storytelling, we expect this event to sell out. The ticket to attend is purchasing apaperback copy of The Covenant of Water from McIntyre’s.
In other big news, we are expanding our hours: Wednesday through Friday McIntyre’s will be open 10am to 6pm. With the growth we are seeing in Chatham County and dinner available next door at Galloway’s Wine & Beer Bar, we are rising to meet the demand. Drop by and say hello, or mosey by after work to grab your next reads from the store. Better yet, grab a glass of wine at Galloways and wander over to browse.
This weekend, Saturday at 11am, Silvan Goddin and Jordan Tony will be here with a slide show to fete the publication of their first book, Homegrown Handgathered: The Complete Guide to Living off your Garden. These social media superstars will be sharing tips and gardening stories just in time for helping you plan your garden.
Then at 2pm, Chapel Hill novelist Jill Amber Chafin discusses her debut thriller,Shaken, with Mimi Herman. Shaken explores the intense, often unspoken, struggles of new motherhood and the complexities of human fallibility.
And finally, “dazzling” debut novelist Marjorie Hudson headlines Chatham Literacy’s 2025 Spring Luncheon at the Governor’s Club. Support one of the truly amazing groups in Chatham County making a difference and attend their literacy luncheon with award winning author, teacher and popular speaker Marjorie Hudson. Marjorie will discuss her stunning debut novel Indigo Field at Spring for Literacy Luncheon on Thursday, May 15th from 11:00am – 2:00pm. Tickets: $125.00/person; tables seat 10 people.
