Whether you’re using the CommonApp or crafting an essay for a specific school, college application writing can feel daunting.

That’s because even confident writers struggle to write about themselves. In these hands-on workshops, we build confidence and produce stronger essays. You learn a proven essay-writing strategy respond to your chosen prompt/question and revision strategies to make your piece stronger. We also provide opportunities for peer- and instructor-led feedback. You leave with more confidence, new skills for pre-writing and revising/editing, and a solid essay. The workshop is facilitated local writing coach and journalist Margot Lester, co-author of the multiple award-winning book, Be a Better Writer. Participation is limited to 10 students.

Pre-writing & Drafting Your College Essay: In this interactive workshop, we discuss your prompt/question and learn a proven essay-writing strategy to plan your response. Then we have work time to produce a draft and get peer and instructor feedback. You leave with a strong working draft. This is ideal for students who have chosen a prompt or two but haven’t started working on their essays.

Combined College Essay Workshops: Take these two hands-on sessions which take participants from first draft to revised essay. It’s best-suited for students who want to create a strong working document in a short amount of time. By taking both workshops together, we can offer you a special price.
