Perfumed, polished and highly expressive, Arborina shows vibrant red cherry and raspberry with crushed flowers, mint, white pepper, orange peel and dried herbs. Elio Altare is one of the defining modern producers of Barolo, based in La Morra and now led by Silvia Altare. Arborina is one of the estate’s most important single-vineyard wines, sourced from south- and southeast-facing parcels in the Arborina cru, including vines planted in 1948 and 1989 on marl-rich soils with clay and sand. Production is tiny, typically only 4,000–5,000 bottles.
The Nebbiolo sees a short 4–5 day maceration in temperature-controlled rotary fermenters followed by 24 months in French barrique, a hallmark of Altare’s modernist approach. The result is a Barolo with serious structure but a notably silky, fruit-forward character.
