LE CLOS DU CAILLOU 'LE CAILLOU ROUGE' 2024

From a highly regarded winery in the Southern Rhône this blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault is often considered the benchmark for Côtes du Rhône. The nose is fresh and delicious, revealing wild fruits such as strawberry, redcurrant, blackcurrant and cherry. On the palate, we find again this explosion of fruit, made more complex by floral and peppery notes.

The estate was founded in 1895 and is located in the beautiful northeastern region of the famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. Maintained by Sylvie Vacheron (of the Poizin family) with her two children, the winery continues to be a family run business with an emphasis on experimentation and a continuous care for the land.

Vinification takes place in concrete and stainless-steel tanks before 4 more months of age in concrete leading to a juicy and seductive wine, with supple tannins. This is a wine to be enjoyed in its youth. It is exceedingly versatile, pairing beautifully with anything from spicy Creole sausage stew to something as simple as a tomato and garlic tart.
