PETER MICHAEL WINERY

Peter Michael Winery is a prestigious family-owned estate established in 1982 by Sir Peter Michael, a British engineer-turned-vintner who set out to craft California wines that could rival the great expressions of Burgundy and Bordeaux. After purchasing rugged mountain land in Sonoma County’s Knights Valley — much of it volcanic hillside above the fog line — he and his family planted vineyards across three distinct estate sites: Knights Valley, Oakville in Napa, and Seaview on the Sonoma Coast, preserving the majority of the nearly 1,200-acre property as wildlife habitat.

From these single-vineyard sites, the winery produces highly regarded Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, Sauvignon Blancs, and Bordeaux-inspired red blends that reflect both the diversity of California terroir and a philosophy of minimal intervention in the cellar. Its flagship wines like the Cabernet-based Les Pavots and estate Chardonnays have earned regular acclaim from critics and frequent placements on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 lists, helping cement Peter Michael’s reputation among the New World’s most esteemed producers.

Stewardship of the land remains central to the winery’s identity: vineyards are tended with careful sustainable practices, much of the estate remains undeveloped for ecological balance, and family members continue to guide the operation with a long-term commitment to quality and place.

PAUL AND EMILY MICHAEL

Paul graduated from the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne in 1990 and spent his early career in the hotel and restaurant business, living in London, Zurich, Lausanne, Paris, and Dubai, before completing his MBA at Ashridge Management College in 1994 and joining the family business. Paul was also the executive producer of the preschool educational television series Tiny Planets, in co-production with Sesame Workshop. Critically acclaimed for its educational and early computer-generated animation, Tiny Planets earned two BAFTA awards (British Academy for Film and Television Arts) and was broadcast in over 100 territories.

After growing up in Wiltshire, in South West England, Emily moved to London where her work in the advertising industry and a diploma from Le Cordon Bleu laid the foundation for a successful career in event management, producing numerous music festivals and charitable events, including concerts on behalf of Diana, Princess of Wales, AIDS awareness and leukemia. In addition, she holds a seat on the advisory board of the Michael family’s hotels and serves as Chairperson for the Peter Michael Foundation, raising awareness and support for prostate cancer patient care and the identification, treatment, and management of the disease.
