Here we are on the precipice of September. The conversation going on by the registers frequently revolves around just how quickly this year is frittering away.
With great sadness we heard about Dolly Parton's passing yesterday. Arguable she was, in addition to all her other hats and talents, one of our country's greatest literacy champions. Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has been operating for over 30 years and given away over 300,000,000 books in monthly packages to children before they start kindergarten. Just plain wow!
This evening we are celebrating National Dog Day throughout the Village Center with Yappy Hour from 4-6pm. Bring your well-behaved, leashed pup for free pup cups, photo ops and plenty of tail-wagging fun, while you help support CARE at our donation station. Plus, stop by Nest and enjoy 20% off all dog gear during regular store hours on August 26. Hot dogs and refreshments will be available for purchase at The Belted Goat's window, and McIntyre's will be handing out treats. It’s a doggone good excuse to spend the afternoon at Fearrington.
We bid farewell to August this Sunday the 30th at 2pm, hosting out monthly poetry reading with the North Carolina Poetry Society. August's readings feature Erin L. Miller, Vincent Joseph Kopp, & Sherry Siddall.
September offers a great line up of author events. We tee it up with a visit from our favorite writing advisor, Margot Lester. If you are working on a project and find yourself stuck, come and bring your work for a consultation with Margot. She will be manning her monthly shift with Writers Office Hoursthis Wednesday, September 2nd from 1:30 to 3:30pm.
Labor Day Weekend we will be open Saturday and Sunday, yet closed on Monday. Get your holiday reading early!

Pete LOVES this book.
