Some dishes don’t just warm you—they comfort you in a way that feels instantly familiar. At The Belted Goat, The Cup and a Half has become exactly that kind of winter ritual: simple, nostalgic, and deeply satisfying.
It begins with our rich, housemade tomato bisque, simmered slowly until it becomes velvety and full of depth. The flavor is bright but rounded, the kind of tomato soup that feels both grown-up and reminiscent of childhood in the best possible way.
Alongside it comes the “half”: a triple-cheese grilled cheese made on our own housemade challah. Golden and crisp on the outside, melty and decadent on the inside, it’s the perfect companion to dip, dunk, or savor between spoonfuls of bisque. The combination—warm soup, buttery bread, molten cheese—is nothing short of perfect on a chilly day.
Some guests stop in for it after a walk through the Village. Others make it their go-to lunch all season long. And many tell us it simply feels like Fearrington—a small luxury, thoughtfully made, comforting in exactly the right way.
If you haven’t treated yourself to The Cup & a Half yet this winter, we hope you’ll stop by The Belted Goat and enjoy one soon. Some traditions begin with a single warm bowl
Together, these details create the rhythm of the dining experience—small touches with big intention. They embody a philosophy we hold dearly: that true hospitality is found not only in the grand gestures but in the quiet ones. It’s the warmth of fresh bread, the elegance of a single bite, the sweetness of something delicate at the end. These moments tell guests that their experience matters, that their comfort matters, that they matter.
At Fearrington, we believe a beautiful meal is built from these foundations. They are the beginning, the in-between, and the farewell. Tiny luxuries, yes—but powerful ones that turn a dinner into a memory.
PIERRE LEGRAS BLAC DE BLANCS GRAND CRU CHAMPAGNE (375ML) - $36
A beautifully expressive Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs, this Champagne comes from the chalk-rich vineyards of Chouilly, one of the most celebrated villages in the Côte des Blancs. Made entirely from Chardonnay, it shows exactly how gracefully the grape can evolve after spending time on the lees.
The inclusion of 30% reserve wines adds maturity and depth, giving this Champagne a lovely balance between freshness and complexity.
Aromatics: The nose opens with layered notes of vanilla, peony, rose, apple, lemon, and a touch of peach—delicate yet inviting.
On the Palate: Expect vibrant flavors of fresh grapefruit, citrus zest, and roasted almond, wrapped in a clean mineral finish that speaks to its grand cru origins.
This half-bottle is perfectly sized for: a special toast. a romantic dinner, a quiet night when you want just enough Champagne, gifting (or self-gifting)
Elegant, expressive, and ready to drink—it’s a beautiful example of what Blanc de Blancs can be.
