As a basketball fan, I have to admit I was thrilled to see the Knicks finally capture their first NBA Championship in 53 years. Growing up, my dad and I loved watching basketball together—usually while cheering for opposing teams—which made the games all the more entertaining. What a series it has been for New York and what a fantastic win last night!
Then, bright and early this morning, I settled in to watch Formula 1 race in Barcelona. I've been a Lewis Hamilton fan for years, so seeing him take a commanding victory for Ferrari was especially exciting. After a few challenging seasons and a difficult first year with his move to Ferrari, it was wonderful to see him back on the top step of the podium in red. Now, if the Hurricanes can pull off a win tonight, I may just declare this the perfect sports weekend.
This week I'm off to Italy for a quick sourcing trip for our stores. I was invited to Milan for the WHITE Show, one of my favorite contemporary fashion trade fairs and then will be taking the train to Florence for Pitti Uomo, where I'll be shopping for Thistle & Oak. These trips are always inspiring—not only for the products and brands we discover, but for the ideas, colors, craftsmanship, and trends that influence the seasons ahead. I'm hoping to uncover a few exciting new lines to bring back to Fearrington.
Closer to home, we were delighted by the response to our Summer Special. Reservations came in quickly this past week, and we're looking forward to welcoming many of you to the Village this summer. There are still dates available, but they are filling faster than we anticipated, so if you've been considering a summer escape, now is a good time to book.
The heat, however, seems to have arrived a bit ahead of schedule. While warmer weather is wonderful for afternoons by the pool and evening strolls through the gardens, it does create challenges for our outdoor event teams, grounds crew, and gardeners who work tirelessly to keep Fearrington looking its best.
As Chatham County begins implementing water restrictions, we will follow all guidelines carefully. Thankfully, our irrigation systems and animal watering stations are supplied by our wells, allowing us to continue caring for the gardens and ensuring our animals stay comfortable throughout these hot days.
If the temperatures continue to climb, we'll still host Roost on Friday evenings, but we may move the music indoors for the comfort of our guests and musicians. Be sure to check our social media channels on Fridays for any weather-related updates.
In the meantime, I hope everyone finds a shady spot, enjoys a cold drink, and takes a few moments to slow down and savor these early days of summer.
