Gentle Reader – July 8, 2025
Dear Gentle Reader.
What a crazy day of rain on Sunday! Hoping you made it through relatively unscathed and dry, but that was one powerful drenching.
Before all the crazy weather, this past week afforded the bookstore elves time to finally scratch off that lingering item on our to do list. Rework the store and give the old girl a deep clean. Some sections have moved, some we are in the process of expanding and others pared. We would love for you to pop in and let us know what you think.
Our event with Martin Walker, author of the Bruno, Chief of Police novels, is this Saturday at 11am for his latest, An Enemy in the Village. For those not familiar with Bruno, this delightful, internationally acclaimed series features Benoît Courrèges, aka Bruno, who is a former soldier turned policeman. Bruno embraces the pleasures and slow rhythms of country life in the idyllic village of St. Denis in the South of France. But a series of murders, intrigues, and other crimes interrupt his peace and quiet. We will meet in the bookstore and are expecting a standing room only crowd.
On Thursday, July 24th at 10:30am we welcome a special guest for storytime: picture book author Sue Soltis! Sue will read her newest book, The Moon Moved In. What would happen if the moon moved in next door? A funny and original story about an unexpected friendship, the essential role of the moon, and our power to connect, even from far away. This book is recommended for ages 3-5, but all ages are welcome at storytime! The author will sign books after the reading.
We continue to collect new book donations for Chatham Reads and CORA‘s food distribution sites. You can purchase from the wishlist on our site or our in-store display.
Find some more staff recs for your summer reading list below! We have plenty of escapist fiction to suit armchair travelers, and a little nonfiction for those in need of creative inspiration.
The Usual Suspects,
