Fearrington Living
An honor to know him
Folks come from all over the United States to live in Fearrington Village. In 2014 I had the pleasure of working on a transaction of a Bradford Place home to a very nice couple from New York. Little did I know that Fearrington had just gained a veritable treasure in this kind gentleman. George Chall and his wife Victoria are salt of the earth folks with boundless energy and spirit! George is now 102 years old and going strong! As a US Army veteran George has tons of stories and his memory is amazing! In August of 1944 he came ashore on the beaches of Normandy, as an Army doctor he would know a lot of heartbreak before the end of WWII came. His regiment was one of the first to use penicillin and he keeps his old photos in an original penicillin tin! Victoria, always by his side, is an Elizabeth Dole Foundation fellow and advocates for those who have and for those who continue to serve…. It was such a treat to learn that this week, George was honored by the Today Show and Tom Hanks. We are so fortunate to have many veterans living among us in this great community. As is often the case, the most generous among us are often the most humble. Our residents have lived the most wondrous lives, but they aren’t all recognized. It is always a personal honor of mine to meet new people and to learn about what their roads here looked like….another reason to feel grateful for being in the great village of Fearrington!
