Big Basin Dune and Mountain Pinot Noir, 2021

Just received from Monterey, Central Coast, California: the 2021 Dune and Mountain Pinot Noir is a very pretty, aromatic wine. Crushed flowers, dried red cherry fruit, sage, tobacco and cedar are beautifully delineated. This is an especially airy style, but it works well. Dune & Mountain Pinot is sourced from two exceptional vineyards in the Gabilan Mountains that push the limits of the region in terms of elevation and proximity to the bay. Each year this wine proves to be every bit the equal of some of our single vineyard cuvées at an ‘appellation wine’ price.

Troy says – “I visited Big Basin in 2012 and have always been impressed by their productions. Very unique and hidden little site at the end of a lonely Santa Cruz mountain road. Owner Bradley Brown built his house at the top of the hill, and while the vineyards were spared, he lost that house during the 2020 wildfire season, so we enjoy supporting his recovery!”
