If you’ve ever wandered through Nest and spotted those delightfully plump ceramic guineas perched on a shelf or table, you’re not alone—they stop people in their tracks with their whimsical charm and sculptural simplicity. These pieces come from Les Céramiques de Lussan, a family-run atelier in the South of France, and we are thrilled to carry their iconic French Guinea Hens right here at Fearrington.

These guineas aren’t just décor—they’re little works of art with a story. Each piece is handcrafted from ceramic in the hilltop village of Lussan, just north of Uzès, in the Occitanie region. The studio was founded in the 1970s by artist Heidi Caillard, whose love of these quirky, expressive birds inspired her to begin sculpting them in clay. What began as a simple tribute to the guinea fowl she raised at home has evolved into a globally collected ceramic staple, beloved for their round, joyful form and hand-painted patterns.

Every guinea is shaped, fired, and painted by hand, ensuring that no two are exactly alike. The process is meticulous and true to traditional French ceramic artistry.
From natural earth tones to bold, spotted patterns, each bird exudes personality—whether you prefer a statement piece or a subtle accent to your home.
What makes them so special is how they effortlessly blend whimsy and elegance. They look equally at home on a farmhouse kitchen counter as they do in a refined living room or garden room, which is probably why they’ve become such collector favorites around the world.
