Living
Meet The Ponds
Mary Donna and Wayne Pond have lived in Fearrington since nearly the beginning of the neighborhood. As residents who have been part of our community for many years, we thought it would be fun to hear a bit more from them about their time here.
What persuaded you to move to Fearrington?
After a disappointing attempt to build a new home, we started looking around. Wayne found the listing for our town home online. Wayne had actually lived in Fearrington Village previously and liked it and suggested we take a look. He was impressed with the quality of construction in Fitch’s homes. And the asking price was in our price range.
What about the Bush Creek Townhouse neighborhood appealed to you when deciding between Fearrington’s neighborhoods?
When we came through the front door we fell in love with the single floor layout, the parquet floors, the open floor plan, the huge closets, and the three bedrooms and baths.
What do you love most about Fearrington?
We love the sense of living in the country with a variety of friends and neighbors who are educated and culturally experienced. The belted Galloway cows, the Tennessee fainting goats, the French hens, the border collie, and of course Jasper the donkey are like pets. We also love that Fearrington Village is just far away enough from the traffic, hustle, and bustle, but close to good doctors, restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions. We very much enjoy the Duke Center for Living.
What is one of your most fond memories of living at Fearrington?
We have lots of fond memories living in Fearrington. These include the restaurants, getting to know lots of different people, and, of course, McIntyre’s Fine Books and Bookends (which is a small miracle unto itself). Wayne especially enjoys thinking back to the time when R.B. and Jenny Fitch opened the Fearrington House Restaurant and, on a special occasion, finding himself at dinner with Jessie and Willa Fearrington.
