Q&A with Ann Lightfoot
We were excited to chat with Ann Lightfoot before her trunk show at Dovecote on Friday, October 13th & Saturday, October 14th. Here is what she shared with us about her collection!
What three words best describe your line?
Elemental, individual, handmade (in our little Connecticut studio).
What has been your inspiration this season?
I have always been inclined toward fiber, possibly even more than stones, and was really looking to marry the two elements in this fall collection.
What is your favorite piece from your collection and why?
My favorite stone is always the white moonstone, or maybe the grey feldspar or maybe the hematite pieces. That said, for occasions, I find myself wearing the silk and bone piece the most. And the hematite hoop earrings pretty much every day.
How do you view your personal style?
Inconsistent! I love a drape-y masculine look AND a flow-y feminine look AND, though I can rarely pull it off, a tailored tidy look.
Do you have recommendations on styling items from your collection?
Always try pieces on with a full length mirror. Proportion matters – especially with some of the more substantial pieces. Almost all of our collection has adjustable length options. Depending on the outfit/neckline, adjusting length by a half inch can make all the difference.
If you could provide one piece of fashion advice, what would it be?
Hope it’s OK to mention two things . . .
Don’t be size shy. Many women think they can’t “pull off” certain styles. But my advice is, if you admire a piece, try it. Just like clothing, jewelry wears differently on every body. So many times I’ve seen that piece become a beloved favorite.
And second, I’m a big fan of either/or. When you find that necklace you love, keep the earrings to a minimum. And conversely, those sparkly chandeliers or hoops deserve their own spotlight. Keep the necklace simple — or even better, adorn the arms with great bracelets and statement rings instead.
We look forward to see you this weekend to welcome Ann Lightfoot!
