Nancy & Fred have been Fearrington residents since 2017. We asked them what they loved most about living at Fearrington – here’s what they shared about their experience.

What surprised you most about the building process at Fitch Creations, Inc.?
We were pleasantly surprised at how anxiety-free the building process was. This is our first build and we were out of the country during construction. We visited only once during framing. But we had regular updates and photos from the design team, Brian and Paige, and all of our emailed thoughts and questions were answered quickly. We also knew the construction team was no fly-by-night group; our every encounter with all of them engendered confidence that they’re a solid, experienced bunch who take pride in their work.

What was the hardest decision to make when building?
The toughest decisions were those where we intentionally went over budget. We gave the design team our top limit and they never pushed for us to spend more. In fact, they took our budget limit very seriously.

What was the easiest decision to make when building?
The easiest decision was choosing our unique (to say the least) lot. But what we loved about it—a steep ravine with creek at the bottom—also made it a major challenge to build on. It was tricky for Brian, the architect, to design, I’m sure, but he succeeded beautifully And I know it was tough on the construction team to work on a steep ravine. But they were clearly proud of the end result when we talked with them at the final walk-through.

What is your favorite room in the house?
Nancy: My favorite room is the kitchen, where I can stand and look at the view from both the dining and living areas. I had worried about having an open plan for the first time in my life, but now I can’t imagine any more perfect design.

Fred: My favorite is the “music room,” as we call it, built under the main level into the side of the hill. I both play music and listen to it on vinyl, Brian really listened so now I can really listen—and I now enjoy an acoustically great room.
