Living
Meet Mike and Ann
Mike and Ann Grimmer built their home in the Richmond neighborhood in 2018. Like so many of our residents, they love that they can be surrounded by nature yet close to all the amenities of the village and the greater Triangle area.
What persuaded you to move to Fearrington?
We’ve lived in several places throughout our lives and had never found just the right place to spend our retirement years. We wanted some place that offered good health care and easy access to museums and cultural events. We had looked around the Triangle area for several months and couldn’t find exactly what we wanted. Driving down 15-501 one day the white fence, barn, and whirligigs caught our eye and looked so peaceful. We drove through the neighborhoods, looked at each other and said “This is it!”. Every time you drive into Fearrington, you’re surrounded by a peaceful, bucolic setting and no matter what’s happened that day, you feel good about life!
What about the Richmond neighborhood appealed to you when deciding between Fearrington’s neighborhoods?
We came from the Blowing Rock area in western North Carolina and had a wooded lot, so the lot sizes and terrain appealed to us. Plus, in the Richmond neighborhood, you have the ability to build any home you’d like – big or small. We wanted to down size, so the Fearrington design team worked with us to create something under 2000 square feet. Richmond has the feel of living in the country with all the advantages of Fearrington close by. It’s an easy walk to the village and the parks.
What do you love most about Fearrington?
We love how friendly and welcoming everyone is at Fearrington. You can meet people who will become dear friends just taking a walk. We’ve just passed our one year anniversary at Fearrington and already feel like we belong. There’s always something to do. What other neighborhood is lucky enough to have an independent bookstore right up the street, an outdoor pizza venue with live music, and belties, goats, and chickens always ready to give you a smile?
What is one of your most fond memories of living in Fearrington?
The wildlife! We love seeing the flock of turkeys, the foxes, and fawns right from our porch. We have a barred owl close by that calls to us at night and we’ve even seen a bald eagle fly through our back yard. When we’re on our screened porch, we’re in our own nature preserve.
