Gentle Reader – September 3
Dear Gentle Reader,
And just like that, orange pumkinpalooza is everywhere. Welcome to September, which is roaring out of the blocks with the return ofWriters Office Hours with Margot Lester tomorrow (Wednesday) from 2:30-4:30pm. Margot is your free go-to resource who holds forth on all projects writerly the first Wednesday afternoon of every month. If you need help with a homework assignment or memoir or whatever you are scribbling together, she is your resource.
This Thursday evening we are so excited to welcome Michael Bennett, coming up from New Zealand after a quick stop in Nashville for Bouchercon. Pete chose Bennett’s Better the Bloodbecause it was simpy the best crime novel he read last year. He loved so many aspects (historical, cultural, and criminal to name a few) of this cat and mouse story, which are all encompassed in his main character, Maori detective Hana Westerman. To celebrate his winning of McIntyre’s Beltie Prize for 2024, we are pouring wine. The wine and cheese start at 6pm, and the event at 6:30, so grab a pizza beforehand from Roost and make a date with us!
Next weekend we have a double header on Saturday the 14th. Leading off at 11am, Dale Neal will discuss his novel, The Kings of Coweetsee, with novelist Marjorie Hudson. At 2pm, Clyde Jeanette Shore will talk about her book, Chicken Bridge Road, about a famous murder in Chatham County. Then on Sunday the 15th, we have a poetry event with Paul Jones and David Rigsbee at 2pm.
Hard to believe the kids are back in school and fall is beckoning. We have so many new stickers for water bottles and laptops, new calendars for next year, and other assorted miscellany to get you organized and ready for the rest of the year waiting.
All the best from the Usual Suspects,
Pete, Johanna, Sarah, Tyler, Beth and Keebe
