Nancy Corson Carter – The Never-Quite-Ending-War: A WWII Daughter’s Stories

October 14, 2018   |   2:00 pm

Nancy’s father left before D-Day to soldier in the US Army in Europe during the first 2½ years of her life. When he returned home to Pennsylvania, her family felt impacts of the war mixed with the promise of new beginnings. In prose marked by letters, poems, and illustrations, these stories stretch from the war years to the present. She places her family’s life, especially in relation to her father, in the context of historical and cultural themes that reveal universal issues stirred up by war. The book is dedicated to all peacemakers.

Professor emerita of Humanities at Eckerd College, Nancy Corson Carter, Ph.D., continues in her interdisciplinary vocation as writer, photographer, workshop and retreat leader, and environmental activist. Her published books include the non-fiction Martha, Mary, and Jesus: Weaving Action and Contemplation in Daily Life and two books of poetry, Dragon Poems and The Sourdough Dream Kit.  Sunday Dinner at the Farm her latest chapbook, follows two others, Patchword Quilt and Near the End of the Rainy Season:  Poems from Japan. She lives with her husband Howard in Chapel Hill, NC and enjoys swimming and gardening.
