Jack was born July 1st, 1926, and grew up on a farm in Union County, N.C.  He worked on the family farm until he was drafted and served three years in the Navy. Through college at N.C. State University, Jack followed a custom tailored curriculum. He continued on with a Masters in Rural Architecture.

For thirty of his working years, Jack designed and helped develop Research Stations in several tropical countries. He also spent considerable time on environmental programs.  He and his wife Ana enjoyed a wonderful life while Jack was working in Peru, India, Ecuador, Panama, Indonesia, and Zaire. They planted their roots in Fearrington Village where Jack still lives, tending their beloved garden.

Jack Traywick has helped write and publish four other books: Your Food

and Your Health (in Spanish); Herbs and Spices of Ecuador (with Ana Traywick), Designing and Developing Agricultural Research Stations; and a Series of Lectures and Courses on Keeping Ourselves Healthy.
