Carla Hall – Carla Hall’s Soul Food: Everyday and Celebration

Before her new book is officially released on Oct. 23 – and before she cooks at Friday night’s dinner in the Fearrington Barn in honor of the late, great Edna Lewis – chef and TV personality Carla Hall will greet fans and sign Carla Hall’s Soul Food: Everyday and Celebration (so you get first dibs) as part of our festival! This event also will offer a few tastes and feature a Q&A between Sandra Gutierrez and Carla. 

 

You may know the effervescent Carla from the Emmy Award-winning ABC show The Chew or from Bravo’s Top Chefor you may have and love one of her first two cookbooks, Cooking With Love and Carla’s Comfort Foods. 

 

In her newest title, Carla celebrates soul food and gives classic dishes her own fresh twist, with 145 modern recipes that accommodate the way we eat now. She returns to her Nashville roots to offer a unique take on America’s favorite comfort cuisine and traces soul food’s history from Africa and the Caribbean to the American South. Traditionally a plant-based cuisine, everyday soul food is full of veggie goodness – it’s much more than barbecue and macaroni & cheese. Among the book’s recipes: cracked shrimp with comeback sauce, field peas with country ham, chunky tomato soup with roasted okra rounds, and Carla’s famous take on Nashville’s hot fried chicken.
